Litjskarven and surroundings
Date: August 14, 2024
We stayed in Denmark over the summer, but in August we went to Trondheim to visit our friends up there. On this trip we went hiking in some nearby mountains spending four nights in the wilderness. One of the goals of the hike was to climb a mountain called Litjskarven which is 1089 meters high.
We took the bus up a valley to a small place called Midtkil and hiked up a dirt road into the mountains. We followed a river for a while:
A smaller stream we passed later:
The first evening the weather turned pretty bad with lots of wind and rain. We camped just below the treeline so we could get some wind protection from the last trees. This is the following morning in decent weather:
Collecting water is easy in Norway. There is lots of it and it is generally clean enough to drink without any treatment:
Continuing up the mountains:
On the second day we made it to the top:
Again, the weather turned a bit worse later in the day, but it was nice at the top. We saw reindeer on the way down the other side of the mountain:
We followed a different and longer route back to civilization. The third day was so rainy and windy that we have no pictures from it. At one point the wind was so strong that it was hard to stand up.
The rivers were really flowing with all the rain:
Felicie did not exactly bring the fanciest hiking gear:
Not all the rivers had bridges, but at least the ones we had to ford were shallow:
On the last full day, we went through a long swampy area. There were boardwalks in place for much of the way which was really nice:
This is the last camp:
Notice the nice weather. In fact, we woke up around midnight to see beautiful northern lights right from the tent.
Getting out of the wilderness:
After the hiking trip we spent some wonderful days with our friends. Here we all are:
