We finished our visit to New Zealand with a couple of days in Auckland. Here is the view from the restaurant on top of the Auckland Sky Tower:

Back in Mexico, the boat was stocked up with food and our friend Maria came for a visit from Denmark. We left Puerto Escondido and went south towards La Paz. Striped mountains along the way:

We anchored off San Jose Island near an old, abandoned salt farm.

The salt pits are still full of water. Pinkish-brown salt tolerant algae grow in the salt water:

Pattern of dried salt:

Lots of tiny fiddler crabs were running around on the drying salt:

Across from the salt flats was a beach overlooking the Baja mountains:

The remains of an old rusted tractor with Maria and Félicie shell hunting in the background:

The wooded interior of a dead cactus. The holes mark each place where a thorn was sticking out:

Look toward the interior of San Jose Island:

It is very dry:

Maria and Félicie in front of large cacti. Is was a very windy and cool day so we were wearing some layers:

Next we went to San Francisco Island a little further to the south. It has a short hike along the crest of the hills around the bay with spectacular views of the scallop-shaped bay and rocks of vibrant red and green:

Amanda at anchor in the bay:

View along the trail towards the other side of the island:
